Natural Dye: Eco Print with Fresh Flowers on Silk Scarves

A Primary Introduction to Natural Dyes

Sunday, July 26 | 1-3pm

Sunday, August 16 | 1-3pm

In this 2-hour eco-printing workshop, participants will begin with a brief introduction to the process of eco-printing, learning about the materials, tools, and techniques used. The first 20 minutes will cover an overview of flowers, fabric and how different flower species, mordants, leaves and design layouts create unique prints. Participants will then spend about 30-45 minutes selecting fresh flowers and preparing their silk fabric by arranging the botanicals onto the material, then wrapping and binding with string. We will then be steaming the fabric for 20 minutes. Participants will unwrap their creations, share their results, and discuss ways to incorporate their eco-printed fabric into future projects and uses! All materials provided.

MEET LAUREN

Lauren Wheeler is the natural dyer and eco-printer behind Vive Textiles - a small business that sprouted from a passion project in her kitchen about 3 years ago when she discovered that you can imprint patterns and dyes of actual plants and flowers onto fabric. It’s been her obsession ever since! She finds joy in creating one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art harnessed from flowers and plants grown in her very own backyard garden here in Bend.
