Design & Create Ceramic Tiles

A four day workshop for adults ages 18+ and all skill levels

August 12, 13, 14, glaze class August 27th

3Pm-5Pm

Ever dreamed of creating your own tile backsplash, tiled tabletop, decorative wall installation, or a set of handmade coasters? In this four-day workshop, you'll design and create a collection of custom ceramic tiles while learning the complete tile-making process from raw clay to finished glazed tiles. Students can expect to create approximately 8–20 tiles (depending on size and complexity). A variety of tile shapes will be available, including squares, rectangles, triangles, and other forms, allowing you to create a collection tailored to your vision.

  • Day 1: Tile Making
Students will learn how to create tiles from clay slabs and explore considerations for size, shape, and design. Templates for a variety of tile shapes will be provided, and we'll discuss planning strategies for larger projects such as backsplashes, tabletops, wall pieces, and decorative installations.

  • Day 2 & 3: Surface Design & Decoration
Kara will demonstrate a variety of decorative techniques to help students develop surface designs. Students will have time to experiment, refine their ideas, and continue decorating their tile collection over two days.

  • Day 4: Glazing
The final session will focus on glazing techniques and color choices. Students will glaze their completed tiles and prepare them for their final firing.
