Handbuilding

Adult Hand Building Class for Beginner to Intermediate Students

Mondays 6-9 pm | February 16 - March 16

In this five week course we will be exploring different methods of handbuilding. Beginners will get a solid foundation of skills to play with and explore while those with experience will be encouraged to diversify their skills and try new styles. Each session we will focus on a different hand building technique with one week focusing on decoration. Skills covered will include coiling, pinch pots, slab building, and additive sculpting.

Students will be encouraged and supported in pursuing creative and unique project ideas.

Students will be able to choose to work on utilitarian vessels or more sculptural work and can choose to work within multiple methods on different, smaller pieces, or can work towards a larger piece over the 5 week class. Participants will leave the course with a variety of finished shapes and the skills to independently advance their craft.

All materials and tools are included.

In addition to 15 hours of class time, students are eligible for 6 hours of solo work time to use during designated, monitored studio open hours to continue building their skills and to make progress on their class projects.

Please note that there are no make up classes, but each student will be eligible for independent study after their second class.
