Discover the joy of making music and clay at Camp Clay’s Ocarina Workshop. In this hands-on class, you’ll sculpt a functional ocarina from earthenware clay, learn basic pitch and tuning principles, decorate with an underglaze, and you whistle will be finished with a clear glaze. Designed for beginners and experienced potters alike, the workshop balances creative expression with clear technical instruction—covering mouthpiece shaping, fingering hole placement, and sound-testing techniques. Walk away with a unique, playable instrument and the skills to craft more at home. Materials, firing, and glaze firing included. Limited spots—reserve your seat and make something you can play.
Your piece will be fired and glazed after the session, ready for pick-up in about 10 days.

MEET Helen
Helen has worked in clay for over 25 years and has taught clay classes to children and adults in Bend for the past 18 years, for Arts Central, Bend Parks and Rec, and COCC. She received a BA in Art from the University of Washington, Seattle, and spent two subsequent years of advance studies in ceramics and photography at the University of Texas, Austin. She was a member of Red Chair Gallery, Bend (15 years), Oregon Potters Association, and am a past president of Clay Guild of the Cascades. She has also worked as a professional photographer, and has owned and operated a music booking and management agency for international artists. When she is not playing with clay, shel likes to play Irish tunes on the fiddle and mandolin :)
